The Glory of God Is Manifested in the Body of Christ
âMoses was faithful in all Godâs house as a servant,â but Christ Jesus âhas been counted worthy of more glory than Mosesâ (Heb. 3:3, 5). A beloved and well-pleasing Son, faithful even to the point of death, Jesusâ own body was raised up on the third day as the house of God, and He has brought us into that house through the waters of Holy Baptism (Heb. 3:6). Thus, it was not Moses the lawgiver, but his successor, Joshua (the Hebrew name for Jesus), who led the people into the promised land (Deut. 34:1â4, 9). Now, on the Mount of Transfiguration, the New Testament Joshua appears in the glory that He is about to manifest by His âdepartureâ (exodus) in Jerusalem (Luke 9:31). Having entered the waters of the Jordan in His Baptism, He passed through those waters and entered into glory by His Cross and Passion. What He thereby accomplished in His own flesh and blood, crucified and risen, He reveals and gives to His Body, the Church, by the means of His Word. Therefore, the Father declares from heaven, âListen to Him!â (Luke 9:35).

(28) And about eight days after these sayings, it happened: also taking Peter and John and James, He went into the mountain to pray.
(29) And in His praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing was dazzling white.
(30) And, behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah.
(31) Appearing in glory, they spoke of His exodus, which He was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
(32) But Peter and those with him were pressed down with sleep. But fully awakening, they saw His glory, and the two men standing with Him.
(33) And it happened in their parting from Him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here. And, Let us make three tents, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah, not knowing what he said.
(34) And he saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And they feared as they entered into the cloud.
(35) And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My Son, the Beloved; hear Him!Â
(36) And as the voice occurred, Jesus was found alone. And they were quiet. And they reported to no one in those days, nothing which they had seen.
